bella seizure: A medical astrology perspective
In Aug 2022, Bella, my Persian chinchilla best friend had a seizure.
Despite an expensive vet visit and several hours of observation, the vet had no idea what caused it.
So, I decided to use medical astrology to find out more about the situation.
In medical astrology, there is a chart called a Decumbiture, which is cast for the moment a person (or cat in this case) falls ill. It can also be cast at the time of an important phone call, or medical appointment.
The premise is, that the chart of the incident reveals information about its likely trajectory. Decumbiture charts are rich in information and were used regularly by physicians until the 17th Century.
Looking at the chart, I could start to get an idea of what was going on with Bella. I could see the systems and organs likely to be affected and an indication of severity and prognosis.
The astrological symbolism in the decumbiture will be decoded, to learn more about the medical care she received and the kind of treatment likely to benefit Bella.
In the chart, the Ascendant and any planets in the 1st house describe Bella. Libra is rising on the degree of Bella’s natal Sun, showing that this chart is likely to be descriptive.
The ruler of Libra, Venus describes Bella perfectly, beautiful, regal, and strong in the 11th house of good fortune.
Venus is peregrine, meaning it has no special strength, she is ageing, but its placement in a fortunate house indicates Bella will be alright.
However, it is clear that something is going on beneath the surface here for her to have a seizure in the first place, something is wrong.
The acute, sudden nature of the condition is seen by Venus, mutually applying, in less than one degree, to trine retrograde Jupiter, ruler of the 6th house of the illness.
This was her first seizure, and it looks like it’s due to inflammation of the head or brain. Heat seems to be a factor and the sudden onset is all well described by Aries, a fast, cardinal fire sign.
Neptune in the 6th house, adds confusion as to the cause, plus swelling and toxins become part of the potential picture.
The condition may recur again because Pisces, a mutable sign rules the illness, which can infer multiple occurrences or fluctuations in the condition over time.
Venus rules Bella and the 8th house of chronic illness and both are configured to the 6th house of the acute onset.
It’s likely that there is a chronic condition that is the cause of these seizures, which will endure for the remainder of her life. Bella is an old girl and is shown in the chart as happy-go-lucky! So I don’t feel like this needs to impede her quality of life, the key is to get a better understanding of a likely cause, and then treat it holistically.
Jupiter rules the illness and governs blood. So my guess is the seizure was either due to inflammation and swelling of the blood vessels in the head, high blood pressure, or a benign or malignant mass pressing on the brain.
Jupiter rules the liver & wood element in Chinese medicine, inferring a connection to stress or frustration.
Bella's temperament fits this picture, she has become grumpy and irritable lately.
The Moon adds important detail to the situation, it applies to the North Node Uranus conjunction, which describes the sudden, erratic seizure activity.
The 10th house suggests what treatments may be helpful. Cancer is on the 10th house cusp and the Moon, its ruler is in the 7th house, corresponding to Bella’s kidneys and lower back.
This fits, Bella has mild, western-diagnosed kidney disease. Weak kidneys can struggle to restrain rising blood pressure.
We were living in a tiny home, which got hot and humid in Northern NSW, adding an environmental element to the picture.
Bella’s treatment is focused on nourishing the kidneys, harmonising the stomach, and clearing heat in the liver.
The Moon in a cold dry sign, indicates that she needs a cooling and nourishing treatment, with lots of love.
In Chinese medicine terms, Bella has kidney yin deficiency & liv qi stagnation, generating heat.
Herbal Prescription: Liu wei di huang wan formula, alt days Xiao yao san for liver.
Treatment: Lots of TLC, fluids, fish, avocado+ Tuning forks Moon on kidneys + Venus for constitution & to oppose 6th ruler of illness - hot dry Jupiter in Aries.
The vet experience is described by the 7th ruler which is Mars, weak in Cancer in the 8th house. This is a warning that the vet could contribute to Bella's decline due to incorrect treatment. It describes his lack of clarity about the cause of the condition and fits with the lackluster customer service. The nurse asked for my money before giving me any updates about the well-being of Bella.
Bella had 2 more seizures over an 8-month period while living in Northern NSW.
Then we moved back to colder Victorian climates a couple of months ago, and so far she has been totally fine!
Her treatments are continuing, so fingers crossed!
